Career
He started playing football in 1928 in his native Novocherkassk in the STS club team. Later he played for the Novocherkassk and Gorlovka Dynamo. From 1936 to 1940 he played for the Stalingrad Tractor . In 1941, together with the famous three of the “Tractor” attackers: Protsenko - Ponomarev - Provornov , he joined the team " Trade Unions-1 ", for which he managed to play two matches. From the first days of the war he went to the front, where he died in 1942 [1] .
Field Position and Style of Play
He played in the position of central defender and central midfielder. Fast, tough in martial arts, he skillfully fought for riding balls, was distinguished by targeted gears. He was considered one of the best central defenders of the country in the prewar years [1] .
Here is how the head coach of the Stalingrad Tractor Yuri Khodotov recalled Ivanov:
| A great athlete, tall, slender, strong, he was in command “king of the air”. His ability to fight for horseback passes with attacking opponents in front of the goal was very valuable. In addition, Ivanov, like no one else, knew how to send the ball from his zone to the flanks with his long, targeted gears, on the move with his extreme striker [2] |
