Biography
Julie Christie was born April 14, 1940 in the Indian state of Assam in a family of tea planters [1] . Received primary education at a local monastery, then studied acting in the UK . Has played episodic roles on British television since 1957. For the first time she became famous for one of the main roles in the sci-fi series of the Air Force “ ” based on the script by Fred Hoyle (Great Britain, 1961). She gained fame for her acutely modern roles of emancipated , relaxed girls in John Schlesinger’s films - “ Billy Liar ” (1963), “ Darling ” (1965, Academy Award for Best Actress), as well as in his adaptation of Thomas Hardy ’s novel “ Away from crazy crowd ”(1967).
One of the most significant roles from Christie's early repertoire is Lara in the Hollywood adaptation of Boris Pasternak 's novel Doctor Zhivago (1965).
The following year, she starred with François Truffaut in the fantastic film " 451 ° Fahrenheit ." For her role in Robert Altman ’s Western , McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971) was again nominated for an Academy Award. In this film, her partner was Warren Beatty , on the advice of whom she moved to Hollywood. The romantic relationship between Christie and Beatty lasted from 1967 to 1974.
Julie Christie has never been married. She leads a secluded life, in the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s she was practically not removed. The return of the actress to the cinema was marked by a role in the drama " At Sunset " (1997), which brought her the third nomination for an Oscar. Of great interest among critics was her honed work in the movie drama "Far from Her" (2006), awarded another Oscar nomination.
