Mastotermes nepropadyom (lat.) Is a fossil species of termites of the genus Mastotermes , which in modern fauna is represented by the only species from Australia (family Mastotermitidae ). Discovered in the Cretaceous sediments of Russia : Trans-Baikal Territory , Chernovsky Kopi, Doroninsk Formation ( lower Cretaceous on the border with the Upper Jurassic period ). The find is over 125 million years old. One of the most ancient species of termites and the oldest among all social insects , such as bees and ants [1] [2] .

Description
Minor fossil termites , which were described by fingerprints of imago . Hind wing length about 10 mm. The venation of the wings as a whole, characteristic of the genus Mastotermes with some peculiarities. The subcostal vein Sc is a simple, very short medial vein M moving away from the vein RS at its base. The species Mastotermes nepropadyom was first described in 2014 by Slovak paleoentomologists Peter Vrsansky ( Peter Vrsansky ; Geological Institute, Slovak Academy of Sciences , Bratislava , Slovakia ) and Russian entomologist Danil Aristov (Arthropods Laboratory, Paleontological Institute of RAS , Moscow ) along with a taxon Santon Santoron , Alexandon ] .
The specific name M. nepropadyom comes from the Russian words "do not perish." The family Mastotermitidae Silvestri , 1909 consists of a single genus Mastotermes Froggat , 1897 , represented by about a dozen fossils and only one modern species from Australia ( termite Darwin ). M. nepropadyom is closest to the species Mastotermes minutus Nel et Borguet, 2006 (early Eocene , France ) and Mastotermes anglicus Rosen, 1913 (Eocene or Oligocene , United Kingdom ), with the same small size and reduced wing trimming [1] [3] . Currently, Mastotermitidae are considered the root group for all termites and the most primitive of their modern representatives, the closest to the cockroaches [2] [4] .
