Biography
He began his studies at Bangkok Christian College, continued his studies in the USA. In 1964 he graduated from Dartmouth College (New Hampshire, USA) with a bachelor’s degree in management, then graduate school in political science from Brown University with a master’s degree in political science.
Since 1968 - at the Thai Foreign Ministry:
- 1968-1973 - in the Information Department,
- 1973-1974 - in the office of the Secretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
- 1975-1976 - Head of the Department of Southeast Asia, Department of Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
- 1976-1980 - in the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York, where he went from First Secretary to Deputy Permanent Representative,
- 1980-1981 - Deputy General Director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
- 1981-1982 - Deputy General Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
- 1982-1983 - ambassador on special missions,
- 1983-1987 - Director General, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- 1988-1996 - Permanent Mission of Thailand to the UN,
- 1996-2000 - Ambassador to the USA
- 2000-2001 - Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand,
- 2001-2006 - Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the same time - head of the delegation at the negotiations with the United States on free trade (2003-2006),
- 2006-2008 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand .
Since 2004, he served as director of the Thai chemical company Thai Plastic and Chemicals Public Company Limited. He was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Kennan Asian Institute (KIASIA).
