Biography
Born May 15, 1915 in the village of Olgopol, now Chechelnitsky district, Vinnitsa region, in a peasant family. Ukrainian. Graduated from 5 classes. He worked as a team leader on a collective farm.
He was drafted into the Red Army in 1937 by the Olgopol regional military enlistment office of the Vinnitsa region . In 1942 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Member of the Great Patriotic War since February 1942. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1943.
From February 1942 to January 1943 he fought on the Bryansk Front . From February 15 to 22, he participated in battles near the Krasny farm, from April 26 to 30 - near the city of Mtsensk, from September 15 to October 5 - in the area of the Mokry farm and the village of Gnezdilovo.
As a company commander in battles near the village of Olkhovatka, September 15-17, 1942, Lieutenant Strateichuk skillfully and timely prepared a major blow to the enemy, as a result of which he suffered heavy losses - up to 100 people. In the battles for the grove south of Gnezdilovo, on September 17, he personally took over command and led the battalion into a decisive bloody battle. The largest counterattack of the enemy, which threatened all our units to be smashed to the head, was repelled. In this battle, the enemy lost at least 200 people killed. For these battles, Lieutenant I. I. Strateichuk was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .
Since January 1943, he fought on the Voronezh Front . On January 25, 1943, the commander of the 3rd infantry battalion, Captain Strateychuk, skillfully organized a breakthrough of the enemy defense. More than 250 German soldiers and officers were destroyed. Putting the Germans to flight, he managed to capture a lot of weapons, as well as one gun.
When attacking the city of Tim, Kursk Region on February 6-7, 1943, the battalion of Strateichuk acted boldly and decisively. Having broken down the enemy’s resistance, he was the first to break into the northwestern outskirts of the city, destroying more than 450 German soldiers and officers, and seized trophies: 8 cars, 5 guns, 2 tractors and one warehouse with food. The battalion completely cleared the city of Tim from the enemy.
In carrying out a special task to destroy a group of enemy soldiers and officers in the village of Pogozhee, Timsky District, Kursk Region, on February 10, 1943, he showed fearlessness and the ability to command a battalion. By skillful maneuver, the village of Pogorzhe was surrounded by battle. At the same time, more than 350 German soldiers and officers were destroyed, 120 Germans were captured, as well as 2 guns, which were turned towards the enemy. When pursuing a retreating enemy, Captain Strateychuk in one company was cut off from his battalion. With a skillful maneuver and the right decision, he broke out of the encirclement, destroying more than 75 Germans. February 11, Strateichuk was wounded.
For these fights, he was presented to the Order of Lenin , however, in the highest instance, the performance was revised, and Captain I.I. Strateichuk was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky .
He particularly distinguished himself in the battles when crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank. On September 27, 1943, the commander of the battalion of the 836th infantry regiment, Major I.I. Developing the offensive, he acted especially bravely and boldly during the capture of the village of Lyutezh in the Vyshgorodsky district of the Kiev region . At 23:00 on October 6, 1943, the battalion of Major Strateichuk, advancing from the east towards the church, silently removing the enemy’s combat guard, burst into the center of the village without artillery support, surrounded and destroyed a German garrison of up to 200 people. This contributed to the capture of the village by other units. Coming to the southern outskirts of the village of Lyutezh, the unit was entrenched, fighting off the Germans' furious counterattacks. For two days of fighting, 8 enemy counterattacks repelled, firmly holding the occupied line.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 29, 1943, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front against the Nazi invaders and their courage and heroism, Major Ilya Ilyich I was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal " .
Since 1946, Major I.I. Strateichuk - in stock. He worked in the city of Kazan as a director of a land registry office. Then he lived in the city of Romny, Sumy region . He died on January 15, 1995. He was buried at the Central Cemetery in Romny .
He was awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Banner , Alexander Nevsky , 2 orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, medals. In the city of Romny, on the Alley of Heroes, a memorial stand of I. I. Strateichuk was installed.
