According to the US Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,386 km², of which 1,370 km² is land and 13 km², or 1.0% is water.

According to the 2000 census [1] , there are 5,048 inhabitants in the district, consisting of 2,053 households and 1,451 families . The population density is 4 people per km ². On the territory of the district there are 2,896 residential buildings, with a building density of 2 buildings per km ². The racial composition of the population: whites - 92.29%, African Americans - 6.28%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.22%, Asians - 0.38%, Hawaiians - 0.06%, representatives of other races - 0.10 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.67%. Hispanic people accounted for 0.36% of the population, regardless of race .
28.00% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 58.60% of households are married couples living together, 7.80% of households are single women without a spouse, 29.30% of households households are not related to families , 26.30% of households consist of one person, 12.10% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.34 people, and the average family size is 2.80 people.
