Spectacled finch is a bright but timid bird 17-18 cm long, evolutionarily close to lentils . Males are usually red or reddish-brown, wings are black with white spots, tail is also black, white border at the end of upper tail feathers; around the eyes are wide black or red “glasses” connected above the beak. Bill is yellow, legs are light brown. The color of the females is similar, but lighter, the feathers on the body do not have such a strong red tint as the males. The head of the females is black or dark gray, the glasses are yellow. The specific coloration of the spectacle fin makes it easily distinguishable from other species, although there is some similarity with spotted lentils , which, however, have pink “glasses” that do not converge in front, less black and more pink in color [1] [2] .
Spectacled reel spends a lot of time on the ground, in the thickets of shrubs [2] . In the first summer months, builds a nest in the form of a large bowl of moss and branches at the ends of branches in coniferous forests [3] .
Spectacular finches are found in the Himalayas from Kashmir in the west to the Indian state of Sikkim in the east [4] , their range includes Pakistan , India and Nepal (as a native species), as well as Afghanistan , where their origin is unknown [5] . The bulk of the population falls on Indian Kashmir, and is also often found in Nepal during the winter months. In the west of the range in Pakistan and east of Kumaon ( Uttarakhand state) spectacle finches are known only from a small number of observations, the frequency of which in the east, however, increases with time; in 2009, a message appeared in the ornithological press about a meeting with a spectacle reel in West Bhutan . In India, nests at altitudes from 2400 m to the border of the forest , wintering at heights from 800 m to 3000 m [6] .
The world population was not estimated, in the habitats the number of spectacular finches varies, but the Red Book reports that the total number, despite the limited range, is likely to significantly exceed the threshold below which the species is considered vulnerable (less than 10 thousand adults with a tendency to decrease the population by 10 and more percent for 10 years). Thus, the species is considered to cause the least concern [5] .
