Pratt & Whitney PW4000 is a family of dual - circuit turbofan aircraft engines with thrust in take-off mode from 23,470 to 45,000 kg (230 to 441 kN). As a further development of the JT9D engine, it has a smaller number of parts, unlike its predecessor, which reduced the cost of both initial and maintenance, while increasing reliability, making the PW4000 more widespread.

Description
The PW4000 family is divided into three subfamilies: PW4000-94, PW4000-100 and PW4000-112. The numbers 94, 100 and 112 in the designations indicate the diameter of the fan in inches (2388, 2540 and 2845 mm, respectively).
The PW4000-94 group was the first of the family and received a certificate on October 26, 1983, and operation began in 1987. The thrust of the engines in the take-off mode ranges from 23,470 to 28,123 kg, and they are used on A300-600 , Airbus A310-300 , Boeing 747-400 , 767-200 / 300 and McDonnell Douglas MD-11 airliners . Of the engine models are PW4050, PW4052, PW4056, PW4060, PW4060A, PW4060C, PW4062, PW4062A, PW4152, PW4156, PW4156A, PW4158, PW4160, PW4460, and PW4462. In total, more than two and a half thousand units were produced. There is a certificate of compliance with ETOPS [1] [2] [3] .
The PW4000-100 group was specifically created for the Airbus A330 . The certificate for all engine variants of the group was obtained on August 24, 1990, and operation began in 1994. The thrust of the engines in the take-off mode ranges from 29,257 to 31,7.7 kg, and they are used on the Airbus A330 models 330—200, 330—300 and 330—200 / 300. The PW4000-100 engine was the first engine in the world that, already at the design stage, became a contender for ETOPS approval. Of the models presented are PW4164, PW4164C, PW4164C / B, PW4164-1D, PW4164C-1D, PW4164C / B-1D, PW4168, PW4168A, PW4168-1D, PW4168A-1D and PW4170. Currently, it is planned to implement the Advantage70 program, thanks to which it is expected to increase the thrust by 2% while reducing fuel consumption by 1% and increasing engine life [4] [5] [3] .
The PW4000-112 group was created specifically for the Boeing 777, and it was with these engines that this aircraft made its first flight on June 12, 1994 [6] . The thrust of the engines in the take-off mode ranges from 33,566 to 45,000 kg, and they are used on the Boeing 777 models 777-200, 777-300 and 777-200ER. The possibility of operation on the Boeing 747 is also provided. For PW4000-112, for the first time in the world, the flight duration according to ETOPS standards was increased to 180 minutes, an increase of up to 207 minutes is planned. Of the models presented are PW4074, PW4074D, PW4077, PW4077D, PW4084D, PW4090, PW4090-3 and PW4098 [7] [3] .
