Early years
Born on May 19, 1992 in London [1] . His mother Kate Cassidy ( Kate Cassidy ), a major banker from the city, was dismissed, allegedly because she spent a lot of working time helping her son in developing his musical career [3] [4] . Engaged in the youth music theater Youth Music Theater UK and performed in "Oh! Carol (2007) [5] . For several years he studied singing and writing with singer and pianist Joanna Eden [6] . He studied at the St Mary's Catholic School at Bishop's Stortford [7] . Smith is the cousin of English singer Lily Allen and actor Alfie Allen [8] .
Career
In December 2013, Smith was nominated for the 2014 BRIT Critics' Choice Award and the BBC 's Sound of 2014 [9] [10] , both of which he won [11] [12] .
Smith released his debut studio album In the Lonely Hour on May 26, 2014 via Capitol Records [13] , along with the singles Lay Me Down (lead single), Money on My Mind (2nd single) [14] . In 2013 and 2014, he headed the UK charts with singles La La La ( Naughty Boy with Sam Smith ), which has over 700 million views on YouTube [15] , Money on My Mind [16] and Stay with Me [17 ] .
In 2015, at the 57th Grammy Ceremony, he won in four categories: Record of the Year , Song of the Year , Best New Performer and Best Vocal Pop Album [18] .
Winner of the " Golden Globe " and " Oscar " (2016).
Personal life
Smith is openly gay. He made a coming out in May 2014. [19] In October 2017, Smith made a coming-out as a gender-religionist [20] .
From September 2017 to June 2018, he was in a relationship with actor Brandon Flynn [21] [22] .
Smith describes himself as a feminist [23] .
