Danielle Brooks ( born September 17, 1990 ) is an American actress who is best known for her role (Tasha "Tasty" Jefferson) on Netflix's " Orange Is the Hit of the Season ." In 2016, Brooks was nominated for a Tony Award for her role as Sophia in the Broadway musical Flowers of the Purple Field .

Early Years and Education
Brooks was born in Augusta, Georgia, and grew up in a preacher's family, which is why she performed in a church choir in South Carolina as a child. [1] In 2011, Brooks graduated from the Juilliard School and soon began an acting career [1] .
Career
In 2013, Brooks won the supporting role of Tashi “Tasty” Jefferson in the first season of Netflix's “ Orange Is the Hit of the Season ”. After good reviews from critics, she was upgraded to the main line-up starting from the second season, at the same time her significance in the story was increased with the addition of Lorraine Toussin in the role of Brooks’s evil adoptive mother [2] [3] . In 2014, she was also a guest on HBO's “ Girls ” series [4] , and also debuted on the big screen in the movie “I Dream Too Much” with Diane Ladd [5] .
In 2015, Brooks made her Broadway debut with the role of Sophia in the musical Purple Flowers of the Fields , with Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo [6] . The role brought her a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical [7]
Personal life
On July 2, 2019, Brooks announced that she was at the 20th week of pregnancy with her first child [8] .
