Biography

Mikhail Bessonov was born on November 4, 1918 in a peasant family in the village of Koryukino, Belozersky volost, Kurgan district, Tobolsk province . In December 1941, the regiment was sent to the front. Bessonov, the driver of the tank, received baptism of fire as part of the 9th Panzer Division in battles near Moscow .

At the end of 1942, the beginning of 1943, he fought in the North Caucasus, liberated Nalchik , and then fought with the Nazis on the Kursk Bulge . Since May 1944, as part of the 104th separate tank regiment, Belarus was liberated.

The 104th Tank Regiment, where Senior Sergeant Bessonov served as a driver and mechanic, entered the breakthrough of the enemy south-east of the city of Vitebsk as part of the horse-mechanized group of General Oslikovsky. On June 25, 1944, in a battle near the village of Yanovo, Bocharivsky District, Vitebsk Region, Bessonov, skillfully maneuvering, led the tank to the rear of the enemy. Suddenly attacking the Nazis defending from the flank, the tankers shot down the assault gun, crushed the mortar installation with caterpillars, passing along the trench, and killed dozens of Nazis with caterpillars and fire from the machine gun. In the midst of a battle with a direct hit, the tank was damaged: the tower jammed, control failed. The driver managed to get an almost uncontrollable car out of fire. When the engine finally stalled, Bessonov with the commander and loader took up defense, repelled several attacks of the Nazis. When help came, in front of a motionless tank lay more than 20 corpses of fascists. By order of parts of the 5th Guards Cavalry Division of July 24, 1944, Senior Sergeant Bessonov Mikhail Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

Having repaired the car, Mikhail Bessonov, along with his comrades, continued the offensive. In the battles for the village of Leninsky, near Minsk, their crew burst into the enemy’s position and crushed the anti-tank gun and machine-gun point with the caterpillars. Mikhail Bessonov was wounded, but fought until the end of the battle.

In the winter of 1945, a brave tanker fought with his regiment as part of the 2nd Belorussian Front on the territory of East Prussia and Poland . On January 20, 1945, in a battle for the Mushaken railway station near the city of Allenstein, a tank in which Bessonov was the driver was destroyed two guns, five motor vehicles, several machine-gun points, and up to forty enemy soldiers and officers. By order of the troops of the 2nd Belorussian Front of February 17, 1945, Senior Sergeant Bessonov Mikhail Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

Together with the regiment, the foreman Bessonov stormed Berlin . From April 30 and May 1, 1945, the crew destroyed about 20 enemy soldiers and officers, disabled 5 guns, and suppressed several enemy firing points. Elder Bessonov finished the war on the banks of the Elbe. May 1, 1945 he was seriously injured. Victory Day met in the hospital. In October 1945, M. S. Bessonov was demobilized. He returned to his native land. He lived in the village of Belozersky, Kurgan region . He worked as a tractor driver in the Belozerskagropromkhimiya association.

April 23, 2002 Mikhail Stepanovich Bessonov passed away. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Belozerskoye, Belozersky district, Kurgan region , where a monument was erected to him.
