Biography

Douglas Pearce was born and raised in Shirwater, a suburb of London , which the musician himself describes as a “white ghetto for the working class.” My father worked as a military courier and participated in the Second World War . Douglas's parents were English , although, according to his mother, they had Scottish - Irish roots. Father died when the future musician was 14 years old. Pierce grew up, as he describes, in a very militaristic environment, surrounded everywhere by war. “I had the most natural attraction to war,” he later admitted. At 18, Douglas hitchhiked around Europe, which, according to the musician, greatly changed his personality.

In childhood, parents performed an exorcism rite over Pierce, as they believed that their child was obsessed with evil spirits. After the death of his father, Douglas and his mother tried to evoke the spirit of the deceased with the help of Wige . Currently, Pierce still firmly believes in paranormal phenomena, is fond of occultism and claims to have had contact with various spirits more than once.

Musical career

Crisis

Pierce began his musical career in 1977, joining the punk rock band Crisis, in which he played until its dissolution in 1980. In just three years of its existence, “Crisis” released four singles, also having established themselves as an ardent anti-fascist and left-wing radical group, actively performing at concerts within the framework of the “ Rock Against Racism ” campaign and at the “Anti-Nazi League” festivals, thus becoming one of the founders of the Oi movement ! (however, soon the band musically moved away from the traditional punk rock sound towards more complex sound, laying some of the foundations of post-punk ).

Death in June

After the breakup of Crisis in 1980, the musician, together with its former members, Tony Wakeford (who later founded the neofolk group Sol Invictus ) and Patrick Ligas (now a member of Mother Destruction), created Death in June. By 1985, Douglas Pearce had become the only permanent member of Death in June, sometimes inviting temporary musicians as co-authors and band members. Pierce continues to work on the project "Death in June" to this day.

In the 90s he moved from England to Australia, becomes a recluse, does not perform. Since 2012, he again began to actively give concerts.

He visited Russia twice (2002, 2011).

Stage image

Until recently, he performed exclusively in a mask acquired in Venice in 1991. He liked the mask so much that he made it part of the stage image. Prefers to be photographed in a mask. He also always performs in military camouflage Waffen SS , most often in the color "R auchtarnmuster".

Douglas Pi is an open gay. He insists that homosexuality is the basis of his work.
