Biography
Nikolay Ruban was born on August 14, 1923 in the settlement of Alekseyevka (now - a city in the Belgorod region ). He graduated from high school. In 1942 he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1943 he graduated from the Ulyanovsk Tank School . Since August of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By July 1944, the senior lieutenant Nikolai Ruban commanded a tank platoon of the 64th separate guards heavy tank regiment, the 3rd guards mechanized corps , and the 1st Baltic Front . He participated in battles in the territory of the Latvian SSR . On July 16, 1944, Ruban's platoon in battle in the Mitava area inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in military equipment and manpower. In that battle, Ruban’s tank was hit and caught fire, but the tanker himself remained in the car, continuing to fire. July 31, 1944 he died from burns and injuries. He was buried in the village of Yauchunai, Ioniski district of Lithuania [1] .
Rewards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945, the senior lieutenant Nikolai Ruban was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .
Memory
In honor of N.A. The street and lane in Alekseyevka was named after Ruban [1] , on October 29, 1970 a bronze bust was installed in front of the building of SPTU-24 (now the Agrotechnical College) on ul. Lenin (Victory).
