Biography
Vasily Roschepkin was born on March 1, 1922 in the village of Pleshanovo (now the Orenburg region ). After graduating from eight grades of the school, he went to study at the Buguruslan Agricultural College, at the same time he studied at the flying club. In 1940, Roshchepkin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1941, he graduated from the Chkalov Military Aviation Pilot School. Since May 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In battles, was repeatedly wounded [1] .
By January 1944, Senior Lieutenant Vasily Roshchepkin commanded the squadron of the 61st Assault Air Regiment of the 291st Assault Air Division of the 2nd Air Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . By that time, he had made 124 sorties to attack accumulations of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects, inflicting heavy losses on him [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 1, 1944 for "courage and heroism shown during assault attacks on the enemy," senior lieutenant Vasily Roshchepkin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2435 [ 1] .
On October 30, 1944, Roshchepkin’s plane was shot down on the territory of Yugoslavia , the entire crew died. Roschepkin is buried in the village of Lacarak near the Serbian city of Sremska Mitrovica [1] .
He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner , the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
In honor of Roschepkin, his native village was renamed, a street was named and a bust was installed in Aleksandrovka [1] .
