Biography
Alexander Rorat was born on August 9, 1910 in a working-class family in the town of Yelets [1] (now the Lipetsk Region ).
From four years he lived in Michurinsk , he studied at the seven-year school number 48, where he joined the Komsomol [1] .
After graduation, he worked as a planer at the Michurinsky plant of autopumps [1] .
In 1941, Rorat was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From October 1941 on the front [2] . Participated in the defense of Moscow [1] .
From April 1943 on the Voronezh Front, then on the Steppe and the 2nd Ukrainian Fronts [1] .
Participated in the battle of Kursk [1] .
July 6, 1943 in a defensive battle in the area n. A cool logger with direct fire, the gunner of the 3rd battery of the 1438th artillery regiment, senior sergeant A. Rorat destroyed four enemy tanks and was awarded the medal "For Courage" [1] .
By October 1943, Senior Sergeant Alexander Rorat was the gunner of the 1438th self-propelled artillery regiment of the 2nd Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Dnipropetrovsk region of the Ukrainian SSR . On October 31, 1943, in the battle near the village of Nedayvoda of the Krivoy Rog region with the enemy forces many times superior to the enemy Rorat, together with the crew commander, Lieutenant Pavel Sorokin, destroyed 4 tanks, 2 Ferdinand self-propelled artillery, and 3 vehicles. In that battle, Rorat, left alone after the death of Sorokin, rammed his enemy burning tank with an enemy machine, dying at the same time. He was buried in a mass grave in Nedayvoda [2] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 17, 1944, Senior Sergeant Alexander Rorat was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union [1] for “exemplary performance of combat missions of command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and for showing courage and heroism”.
