Shelby County ( English Shelby County ) is located in Kentucky , USA . Officially formed in 1792, it got its name in honor of the 1st Kentucky Governor Isaac Shelby . As of 2010 , the population was 42,074 people.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 998.834 km 2 , of which 995.053 km 2 is land and 3.771 km 2 or 0.380% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [2] , 33,337 inhabitants live in the district as a part of 12,104 households and 9,126 families . The population density is 34.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 12,857 residential buildings, with a building density of about 13 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 86.61%, African Americans - 8.83%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.30%, Asians - 0.40%, Hawaiians - 0.12%, representatives of other races - 2.39 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.34%. Hispanic people accounted for 4.51% of the population, regardless of race .
34.70% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18 years, 61.00% of households are married couples living together, 10.60% of households are single women without a spouse, 24.60% of households households are not related to families , 20.20% of households consist of one person, 8.00% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.63 people and the average family size is 3.00 people.
