Biography
Alexander Romanov was born on January 18, 1922 at the Tomenaryk station (now the Zhanakorgan district of the Kyzylorda region of Kazakhstan ). After finishing six classes of the school, he worked as the head of the post office in the village of Zhanakorgan . In 1941, Romanov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. In 1942 he graduated from the Gomel Infantry School. Since June of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By April 1945, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Romanov commanded a company of a motorized rifle battalion of the 70th Mechanized Brigade of the 9th Mechanized Corps of the 3rd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . Distinguished himself during the Berlin operation . On April 16, 1945, Romanov’s company crossed the Teltov Canal and seized a bridgehead on its shore, after which it held it for eleven days until the main forces crossed. April 28, 1945 Romanov died in battle. He was buried in Berlin [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 27, 1945, Senior Lieutenant Alexander Romanov was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and the Red Star [1] .
