The Cross Year of Culture of Russia and Great Britain - the Cross Year of Culture [1] is held in 2014 for the first time in the history of bilateral relations at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the British Council [2] with the aim of cultural exchange between Russia and the United Kingdom . The Cross Year of Culture of Great Britain and Russia (2014) is designed to present the rich cultural heritage of both countries as fully as possible [3] . The scope and number of events planned for this year in various fields of art , education , as well as sports and science are designed to illustrate the mutual desire of Russia and the United Kingdom to strengthen cooperation.

History
In March 2013 , the Foreign Ministers of Great Britain and Russia William Hague and Sergey Lavrov signed an agreement [4] on the holding of the Cross Year of Culture. During the year, nearly 500 events are planned that take place in both countries in the field of education, science and the arts: tours of theater and music groups, exhibitions, festivals, programs. The status of the official information partner of the Cross Year of Culture of Russia and Great Britain - 2014 was assigned to Rossiyskaya Gazeta [5] .
In April 2013 , President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin supported the holding of the Cross Year of Culture by signing an order [6] .
In February 2014 , at the Palace of Westminster , where the meetings of the British Parliament are held, the official opening of the Cross Year of Russia and the United Kingdom - 2014 was held [7] . The reception was attended by Vice President of the Russian Government Olga Golodets , Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoy , Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko , Speaker of the House of Lords Baroness Francis D'Souza , Head of the Committee on Culture, Media and Sports of the House of Commons John Whittingdale .
As part of the official opening of the Cross Year of Culture of Russia and the United Kingdom, the Ukrussia2014.co.uk platform, developed by the International Projects Directorate of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta Russia Beyond The Headlines, was presented at the Russian Embassy in London. The resource covers the events of the official program of the Cross Year of Culture of Russia and the UK, which are included in the service guide for all Russian events in the UK The Kompass [8] .
