Konrad Heinrich von Maurer ( German: Konrad Heinrich von Maurer ; April 29, 1823 , Frankenthal (Palatinate) - September 16, 1902 , Munich ) - German historian of German law, philologist and Nordist , professor at the University of Munich (1847— 1893), doctor of sciences. One of the most prominent researchers of Nordic law and constitutional history.

Biography
The son of a Bavarian statesman and lawyer Georg Ludwig von Maurer . He studied law at the universities of Munich , Leipzig and Berlin , in 1845 he defended his doctoral dissertation. In 1847 he became an associate professor, in 1855 - a full professor of history of law at the University of Munich. He lectured in Munich, Oslo and Copenhagen .
In 1876 he was granted the nobility.
He retired in 1888 and died in 1902. He was buried in the Old southern cemetery of Munich.
The extensive Maurer library, which he inherited from his father and expanded to over 9,000 volumes, was sold in 1904, most of it to the Harvard University Library, the rest was in the New York Bar. Some of the books are now in the libraries of law schools at Yale University and George Washington University .
In the family of K. Maurer there were eight children. His eldest son Ludwig Maurer became a mathematician .
Scientific activity
Specialist in German and Scandinavian legal and constitutional history. The scientific activity of K. Maurer was mainly aimed at studying the history of North German law, which is of great importance for the early history of ancient German law in general.
Maurer's work in this area had a great influence on the formation of the ideology of national socialism .
In addition, Maurer was particularly interested in Icelandic literature, history, language and culture. He was a staunch supporter of Iceland 's political independence from Danish rule. In 1858, Maurer made several trips to Iceland. Inspired by his encounters with Jacob Grimm (one of the Grimm brothers ), he used the opportunity to collect Icelandic folktales, which he published after his return to his homeland called Isländische Volkssagen der Gegenwart. This was the first comprehensive German edition of Icelandic folktales.
