Biography
Born on October 10, 1920 in the village of Maly Sambir, now Konotop district, Sumy region of Ukraine, in a peasant family. In 1933 he graduated from 6 classes of high school, and then courses of tractor drivers. Having received the specialty of a machine operator, he worked at Konotop MTS.
In the Red Army since 1940. Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. He fought on the Southern and 4th Ukrainian fronts.
The commander of the detachment of the 733th Infantry Regiment of the 136th Infantry Division, Private Ivan Fedorok, while repelling an attack of superior enemy forces in the area of the village of Dyakovo, Antratsitovsky District, Voroshilovgrad Region of Ukraine, showed exceptional stamina and courage. Only on November 8, 1941, he destroyed more than a platoon of Nazis.
On November 6, the enemy several times tried to storm the small steppe, which was defended by the commander of the rifle division of the 733th regiment, Ivan Stepanovich Fedorok with eight soldiers. A handful of brave warriors repelled all attacks, knocking out several tanks and laying dozens of Nazis on the spot. Then the enraged Nazis brought down daredevils hundreds of artillery shells and mines. It seemed not at the height of the living. But when the Nazis again attacked, they were met by the fire of our soldiers. It was incomprehensible. The enemies did not know that Ivan Stepanovich Fedorok, wounded, blackened from powder smoke, alone defended the height. Nearby in the craters lay dead and seriously wounded comrades. And each of them continued to aim at the hated enemy with his eyes, pull the trigger of the weapon with his scorched fingers. Alternately changing the light machine gun to an anti-tank gun, quickly crawling from place to place, Fedorok managed to create the appearance that the battle was being fought by a full-fledged battle group. Until late in the evening, a lonely height remained in the steppe. The enemy did not pass the line of defense of the brave and resourceful squad leader. For this unprecedented battle, Ivan Stepanovich Fedorok was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union.
