Gayaz Galazkarovich Romaev [1] , also Ramaev [2] [3] ( 1921 - 1943 ) - lieutenant of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , participant in the Great Patriotic War , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 1944 ).

Biography
Gayaz Romaev was born on April 6, 1921 in Uralsk . He graduated from junior high school. In 1940, Romaev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since July 1942 - on the fronts of World War II [4] .
By January 1943, Lieutenant Gayaz Romaev commanded a platoon of machine gunners of the 128th Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division of the 64th Army of the Don Front .
He distinguished himself during the Battle of Stalingrad . On the night of January 15-16, 1943, Romaev’s platoon, penetrating the enemy’s location southwest of the village of Peschanka, destroyed several dozen enemy soldiers and officers, and captured another 60.
On January 26, 1943, during the battle for the village of Verkhnyaya Elshanka (within the city of Stalingrad ), Romaev, at the head of the reconnaissance group, captured four German guns, but he also died.
He was buried on the Mamaev Kurgan in Volgograd [4] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, Lieutenant Gayaz Romaev was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and Red Star , a medal [4] .
