The ATD International Movement The Fourth World is a non-governmental non-profit international organization whose goal is to overcome poverty and social exclusion , and the ideological base is the concept of human rights , democracy , civil society . The movement works in partnership and solidarity with individuals and communities with experience of social exclusion and poverty; It is focused on supporting families and single people, as well as on accumulating knowledge about the problems of poverty and social injustice.

The ATD Fourth World Movement was created in 1957 on the initiative of Priest Joseph Vresinsky and families from a homeless camp in the Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Grand .

Despite the fact that the Movement was founded by a Catholic priest, it positions itself as an organization without religious and political affiliation. The ATD movement is present in more than 30 countries on five continents. ^[one]

ATD is a transliteration from the French language ( French ATD - Agritous pour la dignité ), which translates as " acting for the dignity of everyone ." The term "Fourth World" refers to a little-known fact of the French Revolution - the emergence of the Charter of the Fourth Estate , which was an appeal to the poorest and least educated people who were deprived of the right to vote for the new constitution.

On the initiative of the ATD Movement, on October 17, 1987, in the presence of 100,000 people in Paris on Trocadero Square ( Fr. ), a Human Rights stone was installed on which it says “ Where a person is forced to live in poverty, human rights are violated. To unite in the struggle to respect these rights is the sacred duty of everyone . ” ^[2] Since 1992, the UN General Assembly has proclaimed October 17 "International Day against Poverty . " ^[3]

ATD Fourth World has consultative status with UNICEF , UNESCO , UN and member status with the Council of Europe . ^[four]
