Biography
Born in Holyrood Palace . The eldest son of James Hamilton ( 1724 - 1758 ), 6th Duke of Hamilton and 3rd Duke of Brandon ( 1742 - 1758 ), and Elizabeth Canning ( 1733 - 1790 ), Baroness Hamilton of Hameldon.
At birth, received the title of Marquis of Clydesdale . He was educated at Eton College .
In January 1758, after the death of his father, the youngest James George Hamilton inherited the titles of the Duke of Hamilton and Brandon.
In July 1761, after the death of his childless relative, Archibald Douglas, 3rd Marquis of Douglas and 1st Duke of Douglas , he inherited his possessions and received the title of Marquis of Douglas.
On July 7, 1769, 14-year-old James George Hamilton died of a fever in Hamilton Palace . He was succeeded by the younger brother Douglas Hamilton (1756-1799), the 8th Duke of Hamilton, the 5th Duke of Brandon and the 5th Marquis of Douglas ( 1769 - 1799 ).
