One of the leading modern performers in the bel canto style [4] [5] [6] . According to the critic A. Matusevich, “Brownlee’s voice is an absolute value: matte sound, dark timbre, soft attack - all this is so unlike the vast majority of so-called Rossini tenors ... He is not only a virtuoso of coloratura balancing act - he is no less convincing in cantilena, legato on a long breath is perfectly smooth and filled with tone, in large, long phrases his beautiful and unexpected timbre blossoms especially in the light tenor, he is well versed in the art of boosting sonority, his dynamic shades are varied a nd convincing. " Comparing Brownlee with another bel canto master, Juan Diego Flores , the critic notices that Lawrence is inferior to Flores "not only with external data, but also in brightness and sonority of sound", but "calmly with him compete in mastery of coloratura technique" [7] . In addition, critics distinguish the singer’s charisma and charisma, noting that “literally a few moments after his appearance on the scene, African-American Brownlee makes one forget about the color of his skin” [8] .

The repertoire of the singer includes leading roles in operas by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Mozart, Handel (Hatis and Galatea, Rinaldo, Semela), Salieri (Aksur, King of Hormuz), Myra (Medea in Corinth) , Verdi (“Falstaff”), Gershwin (“Porgy and Bess”), Britten (“Albert Herring”, “Turn of the Screw”), operas by modern authors Maazel (“1984”, world premiere in Vienna), Katana (“Florencia in Amazonia "). In addition, Brownlee performs tenor parts in the cantatas and oratorios of Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven’s masses, Schubert, Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Stabat Mater Rossini, Stabat Mater and Dvorak’s Requiem, Carmina Burana Orff, as well as Schubert’s songs.
