Biography

He was born on December 20, 1915 in the village of Nikolaevka (now - an urban-type village of Belopolsky district of Sumy region ) in a peasant family. Ukrainian. Education is incomplete secondary. He worked as a team leader on a collective farm.

In the Red Army in 1937-1941. He served in the 112th cavalry regiment in the city of Proskurov. Member of the liberation campaign of the Red Army in Western Ukraine in 1939. Secondarily in the Red Army since 1943. In the army since September 1943. He took part in the liberation of the Sumy region , forcing the Dnieper, Oder, in battles on the Right-Bank Ukraine , in the liberation of the cities of Stanislav, Drogobich, Prague. He was shell-shocked.

On the night of December 15-16, 1943, in the area of ​​the Ksaverovsky state farm of the Grebenkovsky district of the Kiev region, he acted as part of a capture group with a successful capture of the language from enemy positions, for which he was awarded the Order of the Red Star Order No. 1 / n dated: 01/10/1944

From January 14 to January 25, 1944, being surrounded in the Tikhonovka district of the Lysinsky district of the Kiev region, he went to reconnaissance several times. During an enemy counterattack, the group destroyed up to 10 German soldiers. At the same time, valuable documents were captured and delivered to headquarters. On January 27, 1944, together with a group of scouts on the Lysyanka-Zvenigorodka road, being in an ambush, three cars were loaded with grenades of the enemy’s cargo, and up to 15 enemy soldiers were destroyed. By order of the commander of the 167th Infantry Division No.: 5 / n dated: 02.21.1944, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree.

On September 18, 1944, Pavel Babchenko, as part of an intelligence group, secretly reached the enemy trenches in the area of ​​the city of Sanok, as a result of which the enemy left his position. The soldiers defeated the enemy headquarters and captured the battalion commander. From September 18 to October 4, 1944, Pavel Babchenko personally exterminated up to 10 Germans and captured several. By order of the troops of the 1st Guards Army No. 061 / n dated October 29, 1944 "for the exemplary execution of command assignments in battles against Nazi invaders", Senior Sergeant Babchenko Pavel Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

Pavel Babchenko, with the liberation of the Olza railway station from April 19 to 22, 1945, shot down about 10 Nazis from a machine gun. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 15, 1946, for the exemplary performance of command assignments in battles against Nazi invaders, Senior Sergeant Babchenko Pavel Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree, becoming the full holder of the Order of Glory.

In 1945, P. S. Babchenko was demobilized. He lived in his native village, worked as a storekeeper on a collective farm named after V.I. Lenin. Then he lived in the city of Lyubotin, Kharkov region . He died on June 15, 2001. Buried in Lyubotin.

He was awarded the orders of World War II 1st and 2nd degree, Red Star , Glory 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree, medals. His name is engraved on a memorial to fellow heroes in the city of Belopol.
