Pike County is located in the United States , Illinois . Officially established in 1821 . As of 2010 , the population was 16,430 people. It got its name in honor of the American brigadier general and researcher Zebulon Pike .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 2,199 km², of which 2,153 km² are land and 36 km² or 2.06% are water bodies.

According to the 2000 census [2] , the district has 17,384 residents comprising 6,876 households and 4,778 families . The population density is 8.00 people per km 2 . There are 8,011 residential buildings in the district, with a building density of about 4 buildings per km 2 . Racial composition of the population: white - 97.38%, African - Americans - 1.50%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.17%, Asians - 0.24%, Hawaiians - 0.03%, representatives of other races - 0.12 %, representatives of two or more races - 0.56%. Hispanics accounted for 0.50% of the population, regardless of race .
Out of the total number of households , 30.50% are children under the age of 18, 58.50% of households are married couples living together, 7.80% of households are single women without a spouse, and 30.50% of households households are not related to families , 27.80% of households consist of one person, 16.10% of households consist of elderly people (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.42 people and the average family size is 2.94 people.
The age composition of the district: 24.10% under the age of 18, 7.80% from 18 to 24, 25.70% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 23.20% from 65 and older.
