Pike County ( English Pike County ) is located in the United States , Alabama . Officially formed on December 17th , 1821 . As of 2010 , the population was 32,899 people. Received its name in honor of the American brigadier general and researcher Zebulon Pike .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the total area of the county is 1,743 km², of which 1,740 km² is land and 2 km² or 0.1% is water.

According to the 2000 census [2] , there are 29,605 inhabitants in the district, consisting of 11,933 households and 7,649 families . The population density is 17.00 people per km 2 . On the territory of the district there are 13,981 residential buildings, with a building density of about 8 buildings per km 2 . The racial composition of the population: whites - 60.77%, African Americans - 36.60%, Native Americans ( Indians ) - 0.66%, Asians - 0.35%, Hawaiians - 0.02%, representatives of other races - 0.26 %, representatives of two or more races - 1.35%. Hispanic made up 1.23% of the population regardless of race .
29.70% of the total number of households are children under the age of 18, 43.60% of households are married couples living together, 16.80% of households are single women without a spouse, 35.90% of households households are not related to families , 29.80% of households are one person, 11.00% of households are elderly (65 years and older) living alone. The average household size is 2.38 people and the average family size is 2.98 people.
