About the album
The frontman of the group, Justin Broadrick, noted that the drum machine drum tracks on the album were created under the strong influence of hip-hop in the late 80s. In particular, with regards to the shock part of the song “Christbait Rising”, he said:
It was my attempt to copy the bit of the song "Microphone Fiend" hip-hop duo Eric B & Rakim . [one]
A frame from the film “ Other hypostases ” was used as the album cover.
" Streetcleaner " was recorded in several sessions. The first five songs were recorded during a soundcheck in Birmingham , in May-August 1989. The following five songs were recorded at Square Dance in Derby , in May 1989. The last four songs of the album were originally recorded for the mini-album Tiny Tears , which the band wanted to release after the Godflesh EP . However, the label Earache Records , which recorded Godflesh, pushed them to record a full-fledged album. The mini-album " Tiny Tears " was never released. Songs from him later came in as bonus tracks on the CD edition of the album Streetcleaner .
In 2010, the album was reissued. The reissue included two discs: the first disc contained a remastered version of the original album, the second disc included previously unpublished demos and original mixes of the album's songs.

" Streetcleaner " received positive reviews from music critics and was recognized as a definite success of the group. So in the book The Rough Guide to Rock, Richard Fontenoy wrote:
Slowing down to crushing claustrophobia heavy metal riffs with the help of a drum machine, Godflesh created a merciless, alienating wall of sound, saturated with beat bands, feedback and Broodrick's misanthropic vocal. [five]
In The New Metal Masters, HP Newquist and Rich Maloof wrote:
Never before has a single band united metal, industrial, techno and electronics into such a single form, not to mention its ominous sound. [6]
