History

Under the Eastern Han Empire, Intao County (廮 陶 县) was formed in 164. In the era of the Three Kingdoms since 231, the county found itself in the kingdom of Wei. In 237, the county center was destroyed by flooding, and the county government moved to the territory of Taiping (太平乡) next year, and the county was renamed Pingsiang. Under the Tang Empire, in 618 the county was elevated to the region in status, but in 621 it was again demoted to the county. Under the Song empire, in 1073 the county was annexed to Juul County, but was recreated in 1086.

In August 1949, the Xingtai Special District (邢台 专区) was created, and the county became part of it. In May 1958, the Xingtai Special District was disbanded, and the Renxian, Nanhe, Pingxiang, and Guangjong counties were annexed to Juil County, which became part of the Handan Special Region (邯郸 专区). In May 1961, the Xingtai Special District was re-created, and Guangjong County, isolated from Jiulu County, became part of it again. In 1962, Pingxiang County was allocated from Guangzong County. In 1969, Xintai Special District was renamed to Xingtai District (邢台 地区).

In 1993, by decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Sintai County and the city of Xingtai were disbanded, and the Xingtai City District was formed.
