Biography
Born in Sonsonate . His parents are Pedro Campo Arpa and Juan Maria Pomar. His father was born in Torillo del Campo (Teruel), in Spain , on June 26, 1772.
On January 30, 1856, the Conservative Party elected him president despite his unwillingness to hold this post. He decided to hand over power to his vice president, Francisco Duenhas , on May 12 of that year, but on July 19 he resumed his presidency. During his presidency, he made great efforts to restore the destroyed by the earthquake of San Salvador . Also with him, Salvador joined the coalition to overthrow the filibuster Walker .
Since the army of Salvador in the war against Walker was commanded by Gerardo Barrios from the Liberal Party, at the end of the war, Rafael Campo in 1857 removed him from command, which caused a political crisis in the country.
