Volsky ( lat. Volsci ) - the people of a group of Italics , umber - Saber origin, who lived in the neighborhood with the Latins . Militant and freedom-loving Volks engaged in agriculture, fishing, and sea robbery; their capitals, Suessa Pomezia (now Setze ) and Povernum (now Priverno ) were famous for their crowdedness and wealth; the first was on the edge of the Pontine swamp , and the second on a high, almost inaccessible mountain. When the Etruscans invaded Liris , the Wolves had to give in, but did not obey the enemies, but went to the mountains, and later, when the South-Etruscan union weakened, they regained control of their area and challenged the Etruscan dominance of the sea. Some of the Volks recognized the power of the Tarquinians , but with the expulsion of the latter they were put aside from Rome , and the whole people, in alliance with unified tribal Ekws and even Etruscans, waged a long struggle with the republic; Rome was often on the verge of destruction, but the internal discord and politics of the Roman Senate drove the Volks to their full enslavement in the 4th century BC. e.
Conflict with Ancient Rome
Wolves were one of the most dangerous enemies of Ancient Rome and often acted in alliance with the Ekwas , while their neighbors were Guernians from 486 BC. e. were allies of Rome [1] .
According to the early semi-legendary history of Rome, Lucius Tarquinius the Proud , the last Roman tsar, was the first to go the war against the Volks and ushered in a bicentennial history of the conflict [2] .
