Biography
The son of a cavalry officer. He made his debut in 1880. He wrote lyric poems.
Before becoming a satirist, he showed himself to be a witty and formidable polemicist who was respected even by his opponents.
A satirist on the character of talent, he, along with I. L. Karadzhale, created and published the satirical magazine Moftul romîn (Romanian nonsense) (1865–1899).
On May 1, 1893 , in the year of the founding of the Socialist Party of Romania , the editorial article "Moftul Romyn" ("Romanian nonsense"), whose creators and editors were Caragiale and Anton Bakalbash, welcomed the workers gathered to celebrate the "Day of Labor and the Struggle for Class Interests".

Was close to the labor movement. Collaborated with a number of printed socialist and social democratic publications (until 1895): “Emanciparea”, “Literatorul”, “Mesagerul Brăilei”, “Dezrobirea”, “Democrație socială”, “Munca”, “Lumea nouă”, “Drepturile omului” .
Collaborated with K. Dobrodzhanu-Gerey , who inspired in him the idea of appealing to the masses through socialist art. Together with him he spoke out against the bourgeois slogan “ Art for the sake of art ”, “pure art”.
Popularizer of the ideas of Marxism. In 1894 he was elected to the Central Committee of the Social Democratic Labor Party of Romania, but already in 1895 he withdrew from the labor movement.
Anton Bakalbash is the author of the satirical novel “Grandfather Tyake” (“Moş Teacă”, 1893), exposing the martyrdom, the stupidity of the military.
