The Sambhavna Trust (also the Bhopal People's Health and Documentation Clinic ) is a charitable foundation for a group of doctors, scientists, writers and social workers who have been involved in various ways with the Bhopal disaster at Union Carbide in December 1984. Sambhavna is a Sanskrit and Hindi word that means “opportunity” and consists of the roots “sama” and “bhavna” [1] .
The clinic, run by the Sambhavna Trust, opened on September 2, 1996 at the initiative of Satinath Sarangi as a free, independent nongovernmental medical disaster care initiative. The clinic uses a combination of modern and traditional ( Ayurveda , yoga , etc.) [2] treatment methods for victims.
The clinic is located in the middle of the area most affected by the disaster - 400 meters south of the former Union Carbide factory ( ) The clinic is located in close proximity to the area affected by groundwater pollution from chemical wastes and operates taking into account the principles of environmental sustainability: for the irrigation of a pharmacy garden (about 90 medicinal plants are grown [1] ), the clinic uses rainwater collection to generate energy solar panels are used, non-toxic material was used for construction, etc.
