History
The first information about the church in Verkhniy Sancheleevo dates back to 1861, when a wooden church with a throne in the name of the Kazan Mother of God located in the village is mentioned. The village was prosperous and developed, its population grew, and the old temple could no longer accommodate all the believers. In 1896, the villagers petitioned the ruling bishop for the construction of a new church, which he was satisfied with. A special construction commission was created, headed by the Melekessky merchant of the second guild Stepan Loginovich Burkov. According to the preliminary estimate, the construction was to cost 35 thousand rubles, and the question of financing construction work was decided at the expense of public funds from the lease of land, from the sale of bread from lands specially allocated for this purpose, salary cap taxes and various donations. The temple was founded on May 9, 1896, and its project was developed by the Samara diocesan architect Tadeusz Severinovich Hilinsky in the style of Moscow Baroque . The internal painting on the themes of the gospel stories was made by the local artist Andrei Golovachev. In the work, he applied the ancient technique of applying paints to raw lime, in which they penetrated deep into the solution.
The temple was completed on July 4, 1904 and cost much more than it was planned - 51 thousand rubles, moreover, 46 thousand were collected from donations and other contributions, and Stepan Burkov provided 5 thousand from his funds. The church was consecrated on June 11, 1906 by the Dean of the 1st district of the Stavropol district of the Samara diocese, Archpriest Yakov Golovtsev in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God .
After the October Revolution in 1922, the temple was devastated: icons were removed and burned from it (some of them were saved by parishioners), temple utensils, an iconostasis, and a library of 70 books were confiscated. In 1932, the temple was closed, and its building was initially planned to be demolished, but subsequently transferred to a granary. According to one version, the rector of the church, Pavel Pomryaskinsky, was shot in Tobolsk in 1937, and according to another, he died in a cell during prayer.
In 1970, lightning hit the dome of the temple, destroying it, after which the building was abandoned and stood without a roof for more than 20 years, during which the interior of the temple died.
In 1991, the temple building was returned to believers. At the same time, its restoration began, in which both private individuals and enterprises and organizations took part. Now the temple is operating, worship is held in it.
