The NBL season 1938/39 - became the 2nd season of the National Basketball League (NBL) . The championship was attended by 8 teams, who played 26-28 games a season. The Akron Firestone Non-Skids team became the league champion. In the finals of Firestone Non-Skids, the Oshkosh All-Stars team won in five games.

In the offseason, one new team joined the league ( Sheboygan Red Skins ), and Dayton Metropolitan , Buffalo Bizons , Columbus Athletic Sappley, Kankaki Gallaher Trojan , Fort Wayne General Electrics and Cincinnati Comel "Ceased to exist. The Whiting Kaiser All-Americans team changed their registration and became known as Hammond Kaiser All-Americans .
