Muhammad Jafar Abu At-Timman

Muhammad Jafar Abu at-Timan ( 1881 - 1945 ) - Iraqi politician, entrepreneur.

Biography

In the 1920s and 1930s, he was one of the leaders of the patriotic organizations Kharas al-Istiklal (Guard of Independence) and the Akhali group. He participated in the organization of the anti-British uprising of 1920 . He led the movement against the enslaving Anglo-Iraqi treaties of 1922 , 1926 and 1930 .

In 1922 - Minister of Commerce, for several years was chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Baghdad . In 1936 - 1937 - Minister of Finance in the government of Hikmet Suleiman : he led a group of ministers fighting for the development of industry, the implementation of agrarian reform and the democratization of the political system. He resigned due to the resistance of Prime Minister Sidki Beckry to this program. He enjoyed great influence in the patriotic circles of Iraq.
