J-Air is a subsidiary of Japan Airlines' flagship airline, Japan Airlines (JAL) and an affiliate member of Oneworld, the global airline passenger alliance .
History
In August 1989, Japan Airlines formed its own JAL Flight Academy (JFA) flight training and retraining school at Omura Airport ( Nagasaki Prefecture ). The main task of the newly formed structure was retraining of JAL flight engineers for civil aviation pilots. In April 1991, a small airline was established as part of JFA to carry local passenger traffic between airports in the western part of Japan. In September of the same year, the company began commissioning 19-seater Jetstream 31 [3] [4] [5] aircraft.
In August 1996, the JAL flight school was divided, and the airline operating in its structure was allocated to a subsidiary carrier, Japan Airlines , receiving the official name J-Air . On November 1 of the same year, the company completed its first regular flight from Hiroshima Nishi Airport . At the end of the 2000 fiscal year (end of March 2001), the administrations of several prefectures abolished the subsidies for local air travel. As part of its own marketing strategy, Japan Airlines decided to introduce more capacious Boeing 737 aircraft on the local routes of its regional divisions, and also by August 2003, replace five Jetstream 31 liners with fifty- seat Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft [3] [4] [6] .
On April 1, 2007, J-Air, along with four other subsidiaries, carriers of Japan Airlines, became affiliated members of the Oneworld global airline aviation alliance [7] . On June 18 of the same year, JAL signed a contract with Embraer for the purchase of ten Embraer 170 jets for J-Air with an option on five more aircraft of the same type. The contract amount was $ 435 (with all options). The ordered aircraft were supposed to have salons of one economy class for 76 passenger seats [8] [9] . The first airliner was delivered to the airline on October 3, 2008, on October 27, it received certification from the Civil Aviation Bureau of Japan and made its first flight in February of the following year [10] [11] [12] .
