Biography
Wilhelm Friedrich was born on August 23, 1891 at the Grünholz estate in Schleswig-Holstein, in the territory of the Kingdom of Prussia . He was the only son and fifth child of six in the family of the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburgskogo Friedrich Ferdinand and his wife Carolina Matilda. His older sisters are Victoria Adelaide , Alexandra Victoria , Elena Adelaide and Adelaide , the youngest is Carolina Matilda .
In 1931, his father became the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, Wilhelm Friedrich inherited this title three years later.
Died, having survived two sons, February 10, 1965. He was buried in the family cemetery in Luisenlund [2] .
Family and Children
At the age of 24, Wilhelm Friedrich married his second cousin, 17-year-old Maria Melita of Hohenlohe-Langenburg . The wedding took place on February 5, 1916 in Coburg .
The spouses had four children:
- Hans Albrecht ( 1917 - 1944 ) - heir to his father’s title, died from wounds received in battle in Poland during the Second World War, was not married, had no children;
- Wilhelm Alfred ( 1919 - 1926 ) - died at the age of 6 years;
- Friedrich Ernst Peter ( 1922 - 1980 ) - Crown Duke of Schleswig-Holstein in 1965 - 1980 , was married to Princess Maria Alix of Schaumburg-Lipp , who had two sons and two daughters;
- Maria Alexandra ( 1927 - 2000 ) - the wife of an American Douglas Barton-Miller, had no children.
