Biography
The youngest son of Charles de Valois ( 1573 - 1650 ), Count of Auvergne ( 1589 - 1650 ), Duke of Angouleme ( 1619 - 1650 ) and Count de Pontier ( 1619 - 1650 ), and Charlotte de Montmorency ( 1572 - 1636 ), Countess de Fleu, daughters of Henry I de Montmorency and Antoinette de la Marc.
As the youngest son, Louis Emmanuel prepared from childhood to serve in the church. At first he served as an abbot in Saint-André in Clermont and La Chaise-Dieu. In 1612 - 1629 he served as bishop of Agda .
Colonel General of the Cavalry ( 1626 - 1643 ), Governor of Provence ( 1637 - 1653 ). As part of the French army, he participated in hostilities in Spain, took part in the battle of Lleida ( 1642 ) and the siege of Tarragona ( 1644 ).
During the Fronde, the Duke Louis of Angouleme refused to obey the orders of Cardinal Mazarin , was convicted and removed from the governorship in Provence in 1653 .
In 1650, after the death of his father Charles de Valois, Louis inherited the titles of the Duke of Angouleme and the Count of Auvergne.
In November 1653, Louis Emmanuel of Angouleme died. All his sons: Louis, Arman and Francois died during the life of his father. The titles of the Duke of Angouleme and Count of Auvergne were inherited by his daughter Marie-Francoise of Angouleme .
Family and Children
On February 8, 1629, he married Henrietta Maria de La Guiche (c. 1610 - 1682 ), Lady de Chaumont, daughter of Philibert de La Guiche. Their kids:

- Marie-Francoise of Angouleme ( March 27, 1631 - May 4, 1696 ), Duchess of Angouleme (from 1653 ), wife from 1649 of Louis Lorraine of Lorraine ( 1622 - 1654 ), Duke of Zhuayez ( 1647 - 1654 )
- Arman of Angouleme ( July 14, 1635 - November 16, 1639 ), Count d'Auvergne
- Francois of Angouleme ( April 24, 1639 - July 10, 1644 ), Count of d'Auvergne
The illegitimate son - Antoine-Charles-Louis of Angouleme ( 1649 - September 25, 1701 ), the Chevalier d'Angouleme, was legalized in August 1677 .
