Biography
Born in 1914 in the village of Voznesensk (now Zaporizhia district, Zaporizhia region ) in a working class family. By nationality Ukrainian .
In his youth, Konstantin Ivanovich became a worker of the Zaporozhye Kommunar factory, which was famous throughout the country. But he did not have to work long here, since in 1936 he was drafted into the Soviet Army . Then the Great Patriotic War began , and his soldiers' service dragged on for a full ten years. Having passed the severe school of front-line life from the first to the last day of the war, he only returned to his native Zaporozhye in 1946.
Years of military service brought him closer to the equipment, instilled a love for cars. Demobilized warrior decided to become a rural mechanic. For ten years (1946-1955), he worked as a senior mechanic at the Mikhailovsky Machine-Tractor Station in Zaporizhia Region , then as a part of the Yakovlev subsidiary of the Zaporizhstal plant .
When the time came for a big change in agriculture, the party headed for a sharp expansion of the acreage in the east of the country. Konstantin Ivanovich is sent to the distant steppes of Kazakhstan for the development of virgin lands .
From the first day he headed the newly created tractor brigade of the Kustanai region . An initiative and hardworking Communist worker, he enthusiastically set to work. The machinery attached to him was always in working condition. Due to this, the team performed any tasks significantly ahead of schedule.
In the years 1955-1956, Maksimenko’s brigade mechanizers plowed four thousand hectares of virgin lands , turning them into fertile fields. From this area in 1956, 17.6 centners of grain per hectare were obtained.
Konstantin Ivanovich willingly passed on his experience of work to the young, instilling in them a serious attitude to life and work, bringing up worthy builders of them from among them. With the help of a foreman, dozens of young people received diplomas of highly skilled tractor drivers and combine operators .
For active participation in the development of virgin lands and obtaining high yields in large arrays by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on January 11, 1957 Konstantin Ivanovich Maksimenko was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor .
Having provided fraternal assistance to the Kazakh virgin lands in their noble cause, the renowned Ukrainian machine operator returned to his homeland in the Zaporozhye region and continued to work selflessly.
