History
In June 2013, AirAsia executives decided to reduce the ownership interest in their AirAsia Japan division, in which control was transferred to the Japanese airline ANA [2] . In August of the same year, AirAsia Japan management announced the continuation of the carrier's operations until October 26, 2013, after which, according to current plans, the airline carried out a full rebranding and on November 1 changed its official name to Vanilla Air . The updated carrier began working on two Airbus A320 aircraft , with plans to increase its own fleet to 10 airliners by 2015 [3] . The main area of activity of Vanilla Air was the implementation of passenger transportation on popular tourist routes from Japanese airports to countries in the Asia-Pacific region [4] [5] .
The expansion of the airline’s air fleet, according to market analysts, is necessary for more effective competition with a similar division of Jetstar Japan, another Japan Airlines main airline, also operating from its own hub at Narita International Airport [6] [7] [8] .
On December 20, 2013, Vanilla Air opened its first flights from Narita to Okinawa and Taipei [9] .
