The representative of a famous family of German artists, immigrants from Bohemia . The son of the artist and portrait painter Daniel Preisler (1627-1665). The father of artists and engravers Johann Justin , Georg Martin and Johann Martin Preysler.

He studied under stepfather Popp and I. Murrera. From 1688 to 1696 he lived and worked in Italy, in Rome and Venice . In 1705 he became president of the drawing school in Nuremberg. In 1716 he founded the Zeichenschule (drawing school) for the children of the poor, which was very successful, which under his leadership turned into the Nuremberg Academy of Arts , for which he published a collection of drawings.

Creativity

Author of portraits , nude paintings, drawings and murals, theoretical works on the history of painting, in particular, Die durch Theorie erfundene Practical oder Gründlich verfasste Reguln deren man sich als einer Anleitung zu berühmter Künstlere Zeichen-Wercke bestens bedien . He also published an academic work on the art of ornament and color drawing (1725), landscape drawings (1739) and others.

Of his famous works - the figures of the four apostles on the ceiling of the Nuremberg church of St. Aegidius.
