The medal “In memory of the burning of the Turkish fleet at Chesme” is a state award of the Russian Empire , which was awarded to all lower ranks, naval and land, who participated in the Battle of Chesme on June 24, 1770.

Basic Information
The medal "In commemoration of the burning of the Turkish fleet at Chesme" was established by Catherine II on September 23, 1770 by registered decree to the Admiralty Board [1] [2]
Desiring to express Our Monarch's pleasure to Our fleet, which is now in the Archipelago, for rendering the important service to Us and the Fatherland on the 24th and 25th of June, victory and extermination of the enemy fleet, We mercifully command Our Admiralty College to order the flags for them guns, taken ships and other awards, who therefore had occasion to deserve; on top of that, we are complaining to everyone who was on it during this happy incident, both sea and land lower ranks, silver, medals made for this case and deign to remember that they wore them on a blue ribbon in a buttonhole.
Medal Description
Medals were made of silver , with a diameter of 39 mm. In total, about 5,000 medals were minted at the St. Petersburg Mint . On the front side of the coin, the Empress’s bosom image to the right, with curls falling on her shoulders, in a crown and mantle, with an order ribbon over her right shoulder. The inscription on the circumference: B • M • EKATERINA • II • IMPERAT • ISAMODERZ • ALL-RUSS • Under the image: T IVANOV • Beads around the circumference. On the back of the coin in the foreground are four Russian warships, to the left in the distance is visible part of the city and the inscription: CESME , to the right of the Turkish ships, engulfed in flames. The inscription on the top: WAS . Undercut : CHESME. 1770. YEAR JULY. 24 d . To the right above the edge - Yu. Around the beads. [1] [3] .
Wear Order
The medal had an eyelet for attaching to the ribbon; the medal should be worn in the buttonhole (on the chest). The ribbon of the medal is Andreevskaya [1] .
