Biography

Born February 13, 1866 in the town of Carouge in the vicinity of Geneva.

He graduated from the University of Geneva in 1887, receiving a diploma of Doctor of Physical Sciences. His dissertation , Recherches sur l'acide o-nitrophéo noxylacetique, was devoted to the study of organic acids. During the year, Dupark trained in France with the famous petrographs of France - F. Fouquet and O. Michelle-Levy. In 1888, he returned to Geneva and was appointed professor of mineralogy at the University of Geneva. In 1889 he received the title of extraordinary professor , in 1892 - an ordinary professor of mineralogy. In 1895, after the death of C. Vogt, Dupark was elected an ordinary professor of geology.

The first works of Louis-Claude Dupark were devoted to organic chemistry and crystallography of organic compounds. Then his scientific interests began to shift to the field of petrography and geology. Teaching at the University of Geneva combined with scientific work. Dupark expanded the microscopic methods of Yevgraf Stepanovich Fedorov and applied them in petrography. Dupark dealt with metamorphic rocks, petrography and geology of the Mont Blanc massif; he undertook expeditions around the world, including to platinum deposits in the Northern Urals near Mount Konzhakovsky Stone .

He conducted intensive scientific activity in various fields, in particular, on the study of mineral deposits and optical petrographic research.
