Varieties
The main varieties of umpil, which are considered dialects or separate languages:
- Kantyu ( Gandanju, Gandju, Jabuda, Kaantyu, Kamdhue, Kandju, Kandyu, Kanju, Kanyu, Karnu, Neogulada, Yaldiye-Ho ). Distributed in central Cape York , Queensland .
- Kuuku lu ( Kuuku Iyu ). Extinct.
- Kuuku Yani Extinct.
- Kuuku-yau ( Bagadji, Gugu Yau, Koko-Ja'o, Kokoyao, Kuuku-Ya'u, Pakadji, Ya'o ). Distributed in the northeast of Cape York Peninsula , south of Temple Bay, Queensland .
- Umpila ( Northeastern Paman, Umpila ). Distributed to Cape Sidmouth North of Knight Island
- Uutaalnganu Extinct.
