Biography

The second son of Jean de Montfort (aka Guy XIII de Laval) (1385-1415), Senor de Kergole, and Anna de Laval (1385-1466), daughter of Guy XI de Laval-Montmorency, Senor de Laval. The older brother is Guy XIV de Laval (1406-1486), Count de Laval , Baron de Vitre and La Roche-Bernard.

Member of the Hundred Years War . Since 1423 he participated in the hostilities of the French army against the British. He fought with the sword of Bertrand Duguecklen , which he inherited from his maternal grandmother, Jeanne de Laval (? - 1437), the widow of the famous French horse . First participated in a victorious battle against the British at Brussiner ( September 26, 1423 ), knighted on the battlefield.

In 1427, Andre de Laval recaptured the castle of Laval from the British and led its defense. After the surrender of Laval, Andre was captured by John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury , who freed him for 24,000 ecu. In 1428, Andre de Laval became lieutenant of the Connable Arthur de Rishmon and Governor of Maine.

Together with Jeanne d'Arc participated in the siege of Orleans , then in the battles of Jarjo , Bojansi and Pat . Together with his older brother, Guy de Laval attended the coronation of King Charles VII of Valois in Reims . In 1430, he was entrusted with the task of protecting Laval Castle, recaptured from the British in September 1429. In 1433, King Charles VII of France appointed Andre de Laval Governor of Laval. In 1436 he participated in the capture of Paris .

In 1437, Andre de Laval was appointed admiral of France. In 1439, after the death of Marshal Pierre de Rieux, King Charles VII appointed Andre de Laval the new Marshal of France.

In 1448-1449 and 1451-1453 he participated in military campaigns against the British in Brittany, Normandy and Guyenne. He fought in the battles of Pontoise , Mans, Coutances , Caen, Cherbourg , Bayonne, Formigny, Cadillac and Castillon.

Andre de Laval-Montmorency faithfully served the King of France Charles VII of Valois in all wars, even against the Dauphin Louis in 1456. In 1461, after the death of Charles VII and the accession to the throne of Louis XI, Andre de Laval was removed from the rank of Marshal.

In 1465, Andre de Laval, Senor de Loeac, joined the League of General Good against the centralized policies of the French King Louis XI of Valois. In the same year, the king returned Andre de Laval the rank of Marshal . In 1466, he was also appointed admiral of France. In 1468, Louis XI appointed him lieutenant general of the kingdom and governor of Paris .

In 1467, Andre de Laval was awarded the Order of St. Michael . In 1471 he was appointed governor of Picardy. In June-July 1472, Andre de Laval led the defense of Beauvais Castle, reflecting all the attacks of the army of the Burgundian Duke Karl the Bold . And in August 1472, Andre de Laval in his castle Montjan received the French king Louis XI. In 1481 he received possession of the lord Pontoise .

December 29, 1486 he died in the castle of Laval.

Family

He was married since 1451 to Marie de Rais (1429-1457), daughter of Marshal of France Gilles de Montmorency-Laval (1404-1440), Baron de Ré and Count de Brienne, and Catherine de Thoir (1405-1462). Marriage is childless.
