Geography

The village is located in the northwestern part of the Terek district , 17 km north of the district center of Terek and 62 km northeast of the city of Nalchik .

It borders the lands of the settlements: Experimental and Krasnoarmeyskoe in the north, Arik in the south and Dzhulat in the southwest.

The village is located on the inclined Kabardian plain , in the transition from the foothill to the lowland zone of the republic. The average altitude in the village is 217 meters above sea level. The terrain is mainly a foothill sloping plain with hilly hills. To the east of the village rise the slopes of the Arik Range .

The hydrographic network in the village is mainly represented by water utilities. So along the northern outskirts of the village stretches the main artery of the Malokabardinsky Canal , the Kuyan Canal passes through the center of the village and the Tambov Canal stretches east of the village.

The climate is humid and temperate. Hot summer. The average air temperature in July is about + 23.0 ° С. Winter is mild and lasts about three months with frequent thaws. The average January temperature is -2.5 ° C. In general, the average annual air temperature is + 10.5 ° C. The average annual rainfall is about 620 mm. At the end of summer, droughts are possible due to the impact of air currents emanating from the Caspian lowland .

History

The village was founded in 1924 by Muslim Ossetians who moved to Kabarda in 1921 , after it left the Highland Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .

During the Great Patriotic War , in November 1942, the village was occupied by German troops. Released in early January 1943 .

In 1944, he was included in the Red Army Village Council .

Since the late 1970s , a large diaspora of Meskhetian Turks , migrant repatriates from Central Asia, who were unable to return to their historic homeland of Meskhetia in Georgia , have been resettled in the plains of various regions of the North Caucasus.

Nowadays, the village of Kuyan merged with the nearby villages of Krasnoarmeyskoye and Experimental , and practically constitute one settlement.
