Steinbach [1] ( born Steinbach ) is a city (since 1946) in Canada in the province of Manitoba , located 58 km southeast of Winnipeg . According to the 2016 census, the population of Steinbuck is 15,829 , making it the third largest city in Manitoba [2] and the largest settlement in the Eastman region.

Geography
Steinbuck is located in the southeastern part of Manitoba, known as the Eastman region , 48 km southeast of Winnipeg. Steinbach as a trade and administrative center serves mainly the farmer region with a total population of about 50 thousand people [3] . The area of the city is 25.57 km² [4] .
History
Steinbach was founded as an agricultural settlement in 1874 by 18 Mennonite families who immigrated from southern Russia. Steinbak successfully developed economically despite the absence of a railway connection, first as an agricultural settlement, and subsequently as a commercial, industrial and administrative center. In 1946, Steinbach received the status of a city ( English town ), in 1997 this status was upgraded to the rank of city [3] .
Population and Administration
In 2011, the population of Steinbach was 13,524 , which was the third indicator in Manitoba. The number of residents has grown since 2006 by 22.2% (the average population growth in Canada was only 5.9%) [4] .
21% of Steinbach’s population were children under the age of 15, 16% were people of retirement age (65 years and older). The proportion of the population in working age was 62.8% (an average of 68.5% in Canada). The median age of the Steinbuck residents in 2011 was approaching 35 years old — significantly lower than the provincial average (38.4) or Canada as a whole (40.6) [4] .
In 2011, there were 3,770 families in Steinbach, of which 83 percent were married couples (with or without children), about 6% were couples living in a common-law marriage, and 11% were single-parent families. Of all couples, about 49% lived with children under the age of 24 years [4] .
For 61% of the residents of Steinbach, their native language is English, slightly less than 2% - French. For 28% of the city’s population, German was their native language, more than 3% named Filipino as their native language, and about 2% named Russian [4] .
The Steinback City Council has seven members, including the Mayor (since 2006, Chris Herzen has been in this position). Council meetings are held twice a month, on the first and third Tuesday. Daily administrative functions are assigned to the city manager [5] .
Culture and Attractions
The education system in the city includes several primary and two secondary schools (secular and religious), a private vocational school and Bible College. In Steinbach there is a city library built in 1996, the collection of which includes more than 50 thousand copies of books, magazines, audio and video recordings. The library has over 7000 readers [6] . The city has a water sports center, two sports arenas and a center for culture and arts.
A number of Steinbuck sights are associated with its Mennonite history. The Mennonite historical village is a reconstruction of the life of the first inhabitants of Steinbuck, annually in August the city hosts Pioneer Days [3] . In Steinbach, a network of memorial squares has been developed, broken in memory of individual residents of the city with the money of their relatives [7] . Two sights of the city are connected with its history as an automobile center - the Steinbach – Automobile City monument (a sculptural image of the 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II roadster) [8] and the house of the first car seller in Steinbach J. R. Friesen (1916 year), which is a monument of architecture of provincial significance [7] .
