Biography
Alexander Polovinkin was born in 1920 in the village of Bezhanovo (now - Vachsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region ). After elementary school, he worked on a collective farm . In 1940, Polovinkin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts [1] .
By January 1945, Corporal Alexander Polovinkin was a shooter in the 898th Infantry Regiment of the 245th Infantry Division of the 59th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the forcing of the Oder . On January 30, 1945, Polovinkin was one of the first to cross the Oder in the area of the settlement of Reigersfeld (now Berava , Poland ) and took an active part in the battles for the capture and retention of the bridgehead on its western shore, destroying 20 soldiers and 1 enemy officer. March 8, 1945 Polovinkin died in battle. Initially, he was buried in the Polish city of Raciborz , later reburied at the Kutuzovsky memorial in the village of Boleslawiec [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, corporal Alexander Polovinkin was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union for "exemplary execution of the command missions of the command on the front of the struggle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism." He was also awarded the Order of Lenin and a medal [1] .
