Biography
Born on August 24, 1885 in the village of Tougou of Miyazaki Prefecture, the eldest son of Wakayama Tatezo (若 山 立 蔵) [1] .
He began to compose the tank in his school years, at the same time his poems began to be published in the Tokyo journal "Shinsay" ("New Voices") [3] .
In 1904 he entered Waseda University in Tokyo . During his studies, he made friends with the poets Kitahara Hakushu and Toki Aika . The teacher of the Bokusuya tank was Onoe Sayshu .
In 1908, the first collection of Bokusui's poems was published, “Voice of the Sea” ( 海 の 声 ). During his creative career, he wrote fifteen collections of the tank. The content of many poems was significantly influenced by Bokusuy's trips around Japan [4] .
Until the end of his life, the general mood of the poet was focused on the themes of wine, love and wanderings, which, according to the Japanese scientist A. A. Dolin , can be interpreted as a new interpretation of the old Zen concept of life drawn by wind and stream [3] .
As a result of cirrhosis of the liver and acute gastritis, he died on September 17, 1928 in his home in the city of Numazu in Shizuoka Prefecture [1] .
